The Austro-Italian conductor Eraldo Salmieri was born in Linz (Austria) .After piano and music theorie studies at the Conservatorio „Giuseppe Verdi“ in Milan, he graduated in Orchestra Conducting at the Wiener Musikhochschule in 1988 under Prof. Otmar Suitner. Already during his studies he conducted works of Haydn, Mozart and Schumann at the Konzerthaus and at the Musikverein in Vienna, and attended the master classes of Pierre Dervaux in Nice and Carlo Maria Giulini at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
1989 Eraldo Salmieri gave his opera debut at the DEUTSCHES THEATER in Munich with Puccini’s La Bohème and conducted the NEW PRODUCTIONS of La Traviata, Nabuccoand Madama Butterfly in 1990, 1991 and 2000. His opera career led him to Sofia, where he conducted the NEW PRODUCTION of Le nozze di Figaro for the Mozart year. 1992 he was again invited to the International Music Weeks of Sofia for L’Italiana in Algeri, 1993 for Rigoletto and 1995 for Tosca.
1995 Eraldo Salmieri conducted Le nozze di Figaro at the TEATRO BELLINI in Catania in the celebrated Giorgo Strehler production of the Teatro alla Scala.
1997 he gave his debuts at the DEUTSCHE OPER AM RHEIN with Tosca, at the BUDAPEST STATE OPERA with La Traviata and at the LORELEY FESTIVAL with Fidelio. 1995/96 he conducted the NEW PRODUCTIONS of Il Turco in Italia and Tosca at the OPERA NATIONAL DE BRETAGNE in Rennes.
1998 he was the celebrated conductor of a new La Traviata production for the re-opening of the theatre of BELO HORIZONTE in Brazil. At the STAATSTHEATER BREMEN he conducted Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera in 1999. In addition, Salmieri led, among others, Aida, Carmen and The magic flute in different productions in Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and Norway. He conducted the NEW PRODUCTION of Madama Butterfly and Nabucco at the Teatro V. Basso in Accoli.
In 2001 Salmieri conducted Il capello di paglia di Firenze of Nino Rota at the VIENNA CHAMBER OPERA and Cosí fan Tutte in PALERMO and Turandot at the BOLSHOI THEATRE in Minsk in 2002.
2002 he is the conductor of the CLASSIC OPEN AIR SOLOTHURN, performing Carmen, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, Turandot, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Traviata.
Salmieri conducted the ORCHESTRA FILARMONICA ITALIANA, the SLOVAK PHILHARMONY, the ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE BRETAGNE, the HUNGARIAN STATE PHILHARMONY, he performed in the concert halls of Stockholm, Oslo,Vienna,Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam, Zurich, and at the PHILHARMONIE in Berlin in 1998 and 2001.
Between 1992 and 1996 Eraldo Salmieri was the music director of the NEW SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA in Sofia, where his work was mainly focused on the œuvre of Franz Schubert. He began developing a special relationship to Bulgaria, since 2004 he has been the guest conductor of the PHILHARMONIE SOFIA and in 2003/2005 he led the inaugural concerts of the EMIL TSCHAKAROV FESTIVALS with the BOURGAS PHILHARMONIE. in 2007 he became music director of the Operosa festival in Evxinograd, varna, where he conducted Don Giovanni and Romeo et Juliette.
In 2003 he became music advisor of the FESTIVAL DEI DUE MONDI for Gian Carlo Menotti in Spoleto.
In 2006 Eraldo Salmieri conducted Nabucco and La Traviata at the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg. An additional highlight was the opera gala with Giuseppe Giacomini at the SEJONG CENTER SEOUL. The same year he conducted Aida with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Bielefeld.
From 2006 to 2009 Eraldo Salmieri was appointed music director of the STATE OPERA POZNAN (TEATR WIELKI STANISLAV MONIUSCHKO) where he conducted a concert with Barbara Hendricks as well as the new productions of Un Ballo in Maschera, Otello, Stiffelio, Aida, Don Pasquale, Madama Butterfly and Tannhäuser.
From 2007 he became the conductor for italian Repertoire at the Stadttheater Giessen, whre he conducted Maria Stuarda, Cenerentola and La Favorita.
In 2011 he will conduct La Forza del Destino at the State Opera in Poznan, Die Zauberfloete at the State Opera in Lodz.
In 2012 Salmieri will lead the new productions of Giovanni Pacini Maria regina d' Inghilterra in Giessen and Cosi' fan Tutte at the Operosa festival.
